A groom-to-be is likely having major regrets right about now, after taking to the internet to complain about his future wife's wedding dress.

In a Reddit thread, Josh revealed he wasn't happy with his fiancée spending - wait for it - $950 on a her wedding dress plus $120 on a veil.

Instead he wanted his bride to find one for $50 to $100 - like some dresses he had "found on a recommended app called Wish".

The outrageous request had him quickly labelled an asshole by fellow redditors, and after his bride-to-be Emma discovered the thread herself it seems the wedding is off.

"We jointly put aside 10k each for the wedding, everything is paid and we have 6k leftover which I think could go towards the honeymoon on top of the honeymoon fund we already had," he wrote in the post.

"I had a quick Google around at dresses online and there were so many! And so many just like the one Emma wants for like $50 to $100.

"She is very slender but apparently wants it specially fitted.

"AITA [am I the asshole] here? Is there something I am seriously missing?"

Yes Josh, yes you are.

And Emma seemed to agree, because then Josh revealed she told him she "needs to really consider if we are a good match for marriage".

While wedding dress prices vary greatly, the average wedding dress cost in the US is $1,000, whereas in Australia brides are shelling out on average $5,000, according to Wedded Wonderland.

The thread went viral receiving over 3.5k comments and the majority of people seemed to agree with Emma, and slammed Josh for wanting her to buy such a cheap dress.

"You say you don't want her to cheap out, but then you say you want her to buy a $50 -$100 wedding dress. That's cheap," one person wrote.

"He's also not acknowledging that the images on Wish are likely fake and the actual dress will be much lower quality," another pointed out.

"Hi Emma - OP [original poster] said you can see this thread. Stay with your parents, this dude is a wiener," a third person added.

Bride calls off wedding after fiancé complains online that her dress is too expensive - 9Honey

Posted: 21 Jan 2020 05:50 AM PST

One bride-to-be has cancelled her wedding after discovering her fiancé complained online about the cost of her dress.

According to his Reddit post, Josh reveals he and Emma had an argument after she found her dream dress, which he thought was too expensive but later revealed it was finding his actual Reddit post about the incident that led to her calling off the nuptials.

Emma, 27, found her gown and veil for the bargain price of $1,070 but it seems Josh, 38, was trying to convince her to only spend $50 - $100 (can you even get a regular dress that cheap anymore!?).

And it seems many of the users on the forum agreed with the bride on this one, labelling the groom's behaviour as "controlling".

"We aren't the extravagant type at all, then comes the time for Emma to pick her dress," Josh explains.

"I know everything is more expensive when it has the term wedding attached to it what I wasn't expecting was an $950 dress plus $120 veil!

"I'm using my dad's old tux he used for his wedding to my mum, just had it taken in a little, Emma can't use her mum's dress as her and her mum both say the style hasn't aged well which is fair.

"I had a quick Google around at dresses online and there were so many! and so many just like the one Emma wants for like $50 to $100.

"I'm not trying to get her to cheap out on her dress but she will literally wear it once, one dress for over $1000 is just insane that would fund our honeymoon," he claims.

But it seems it wasn't just about the money for Josh, who also revealed he wasn't keen on letting Emma's mum pay for the dress either when she offered to cover the cost for her daughter.

The groom details other items he's seen online for much less before asking readers "Am I The A**hole?" (AITA)

It seemed the response was unanimous.

"Most of the wedding guests would be arriving in more expensive attire, if $50-100 was her dress budget," one person pointed out.

Another said: "I really thought OP [original poster] was going to say that she wanted a £6000 or £7000 dress and was shocked when it was less than £1000. Wedding dresses are expensive. A compromise would be a £500-£700 dress. £50 is a joke. "

"Regardless of dress type, though, your reaction to her - calling her names and deciding you have veto power - is the real problem. You should be solving this issue together. If you can't, maybe it's not time to get married yet," one user pointed out.

"You say you don't want her to cheap out, but then you say you want her to buy a $50 -$100 wedding dress. That's cheap. That's cheap even for a regular dress. Those cheap dresses you're finding online will look terrible in person and are the source of so many disappointed women and jokes. Wedding dresses and their tailoring are expensive. $1000 is actually a low priced dress. "

Another user on the forum told the now single bride-to-be to go out and splurge on a dress for a night out with friends.

"Hey Emma, this guy said he called you a toddler throwing a tantrum because you don't want to get married in a $50 dress. Ditch the wiener, buy a cute a** dress that costs more than $50, go out with your friends and celebrate the fact that you're no longer with a loser who brags about being a controlling d*** and calling you names. "

Josh revealed in his original post as a result of their initial argument over the cost of the dress, Emma left to stay with her parents.

But after finding the thread online, which has had thousands of votes and comments, that's when she cancelled their wedding.

Seems like the 38-year-old got much more than he bargained for when first taking to the popular forum to ask the famous AITA question.
