I honestly cant just stay indoors and do nothing. I'm not even joking when I say I haven't properly watched TV in over 4 months (minus Corrie catchup... obviously).
This weekend wasn't much different. I tried to cram in as much as I could, and this time more diverse activities than just eating and drinking were on the cards (awkwardly, those 2 did occur too).
So in the name of trying to branch out and expand our horizons, Caroline and I headed to watch comedy in the form of Mr. Jack Whitehall.
I can't say I really knew much about him to be honest. I just thought he was that posh guy off the telly, so we held judgement till the end.
He's due to start his 2014 country tour very soon, but before he does, he was testing the waters on us. I didn't really consider how comedians prepared actually, but it goes a little like this...
We went to a small college venue in Lamberth, where we paid less than half the price at £9 to see Jack perform a slightly rough around the edges routine. It makes perfect sense really, as then he can work out what laughs are good, and which need to be edited.
There were the odd few that were a little flat, however honestly I was in stitches for most of the show. He predictably took the mick out of his posh upbringing alot, but it was genuinely funny, and he came across really likeable.
This pre-tour show was only on this weekend, however his full blown tour is due to start on the 15th Jan.
With our spirits fully lifted, we were in the mood to carry on the party and so headed down to Cafe de Paris to see in the first Friday of 2014 with a cheeky Champagne or 2 with Liam Norval who actually is friends with Jack, so we chatted away about comedy.
I mentioned this in my previous post about New Years, but I am so happy I met Caroline, as we both said that night how we just can't be idle and do nothing. You only live once so why not live for today and have fun. My worst fear is that I'l suddenly find myself old, and I'll look back and say my life was a waste.
In the second half of 2013 I already took on the yes-man mantra, but 2014, I'm saying yes in a big way!
Part of my explorer nature includes discovering new foodie places. I love going to those little hidden gems that no one had heard of yet, that a quiet but fantastic. Well sometimes last minute hunger pangs don't really let that happen, so when the next day at about 2 o'clock I decided it was time to eat, I couldn't for the life of me think where to go. A quick Google of where's near and Honest Burgers popped up. Everyone's heard of Honest Burgers so it's nothing new, but oh its nothing to turn your nose up at!
The menu is quite simple, just a few 'honest' ingredients done right. However for me, it was the special that caught my eye. Yeah it might be the Christmas Special, but hey, I'm still in the 12 days after Christmas period, so its technically still allowed.
With a mason jar of home-made lemonade to keep me occupied, I impatiently waited for my burger.
Until this beauty was presented to me.
A thick beef pattie- medium rare, gooey breaded Camembert, bacon, rocket and cranberry sauce slathered between a toasted brioche bun.
I've always said Christmas food tastes better than anything else, well this earned the Christmas stamp of approval.
Also those rosemary fries... sweet (potato) lord! They were good.
My partner in foodie crime had the Honest Burger, which may not be a looker but I'm told on good (honest) authority that it was very very good. Well, with cheese, bacon, pickles and onion relish, how could it not be?
Honest Burgers may be a not so hidden gem, but it's still a gem all right.
I've had a few comments of friends who've said 'Do you ever stop?'. Truthfully? No. But then I don't plan to either. Sure there are days when after working all week, I do just want to curl up in my sweats with a packet of fig rolls and watch Corrie, but then that's what Coffee was invented for ;)
