THE SKIN SINS - What I see going wrong

There are multiple things in beauty that I do not understand. Some I try not to. However I've decided to list a few of them here. I am steering away from the obvious ones like fake tan, bad foundation matching, etc etc but listing some of the common ones that no one seems to talk about and how to fix it.

1 - BAD MASCARA

I don't understand how someone can let their mascara crack and flake down their eyes and cheeks. If a mascara does that then it is either too old or the formula is wrong for your lashes. I find that not all mascaras work for all lashes. It is not meant to do that! Throw it away!

2 - SLEEPING IN FALSE EYELASHES

Oh god I see this a lot. False lashes look false if they have great globs of glue attached to them that is hanging off the lash. It also shows up as a grey goo on the base of the lash. It then turns crusty and what I see coming towards me is an eyelash hanging off in places, grey at the base with eye crust on it. No wonder I don't want to deal with that. Imagine the bacteria on it?!?!?! Take the eye lash off, clear any glue off it, store it neatly and then you will get a certain amount of wear from it before you take it and bin it.

3 - WIPES ARE SKINCARE.

I will not diss wipes completely. In certain cases, wipes are great. Festivals are made for them. However, there are women who use wipes every day on their skin and wonder why its terrible. A wipe is a temporary fix. They are not designed to be deep cleaning. A very select few are due to exfoliating beads and they tend to be more expensive for this reason. Still, I wouldn't trust them to keep the skin clean. Basically, a wipe takes make up and cleans half of it. The other half is smeared into the natural oil of the skin, pores and dirt from the day. It doesn't clean it. So on a daily basis - this is getting built up in the skin and leads to flaky skin and spots.
I get that a wipe is a quick fix but Micellar water is great and does the trick. It's available in cheaper brands, cleans skin deep and removes all make up. It can be used nightly as well. Job done.

4 - NOT LOOKING AT SKINCARE.

There are a few problems that can be caused by the wrong foundation. I get that. However, there are more issues that can be caused by skincare. I would say that 70% of complaints that I hear about foundation are actually the problem caused by incorrect skin care. Amazingly, if someone suggests a solution that is based on your query about what is wrong, you would think that this would be a no brainer. Nope. There are women who believe it is foundation causing an issue and are determined to change that and not the skincare. If there is a skincare routine at all. It's amazing. I would rather spend money on the skincare rather then the foundation. I'm happy with a BB cream because I look after my skin. If a specialist/MUA tells you the issue is skincare then it is worth listening because they know their stuff. Change the product. If you are experiencing dry skin despite using a moisturiser then the moisturiser is not working. THE CALLS ARE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE PEOPLE!!!! CHANGE IT!!!

5 - QUESTION YOUR ETHICS.

Ethical shopping can be a nightmare. Not all brands are created equal. I know there are a lot of brands out there that claim to be cruelty to animals free but then still sell to China despite the regulations on animal testing. I know there are brands out there that use natural fibres of animals which are dubiously acquired for their brushes. I know that wipes are often disposed and accumulate into a 'fat berg' in sewers - I will not describe what that is but google it and let the horror sink in. We need to be on with our skin care/ make up purchasing because the only way that companies get the message is to loose money. If you don't like a marketing campaign then don't buy it. Simple as. Don't complain then buy it anyway or say you support something if you really don't. Research into eco friendly, vegan companies is not that difficult and makes a massive difference. Oh and it supports the little guys who are trying to take on the make up corporations of this world. GO TEAM.

6 - A CLEAN BRUSH IS A HAPPY BRUSH

Please people. Clean your brushes. It doesn't take long but it means the bristles don't fall out nor does the brush smell or look bacteria ridden.

7- EXFOLIATING YOUR LIPS IS A GOOD THING.

I don't know why but given the trend for matte lipstick, people seem to forget that lips are skin. You need to exfoliate the dead skin off lips to make lipstick not look awful. It's super easy to do. It takes five minutes but changes the lip. I don't really care for lip primers, etc. I just care that I don't have to work with a cracked, terrible surface. I also feel that lip conditioner/balm is a must as well. Vaseline (on this note) is not a lip conditioner or balm. It does nothing for your lips.
